The works will start on May 5 and will take place between 7am and 5pm each day.
During these times traffic controllers will be onsite to minimise traffic disruptions.
The first section of the Highway to be closed will be the Bendigo bound lanes of the highway near Bullock Creek.
The partial lane closer means motorists will have to drive in the fast, right-hand lane rather than the left lane, for about 100 metres.
VicRoads Northern Victoria regional director Mal Kersting is advising all motorists to factor in an additional five minutes travelling time over this period.
Mr Kersting said workers would be conducting minor drilling in order to locate where future works should take place and to make sure the site is safe.
The intersection has been identified as a safety risk due to a number of crashes there in the past few years.
In February VicRoads reduced the speed limited in the vicinity of the intersection to 80kmh in its efforts to curb reckless driving in the area.
The traffic black spot has been listed for an $86-million upgrade, with an overpass to connect the Calder Alternative Highway across the Calder Highway.
