The Bendigo TAFE employees travelled to Melbourne via train yesterday morning as part of the Australian Education Union (AEU) TAFE4ALL campaign.
Leading the charge was AEU sub-branch president Stacey Clarke, elected representative of Bendigo TAFE staff, and Sue Kirby.
Speaking from the rally, Ms Kirby said an estimated 5000 people had turned out.
“It was not a boisterous crowd but there was certainly a very united atmosphere,” she said.
“We enjoyed having the opportunity to speak up against the cuts and represent Bendigo.” The rally march started at the State Library on Swanston Street about noon.
The protestors, joined by secondary students from the National Institute of Circus Arts based at Swinburne Prahran campus, marched from the State Library in Swanston Street Parliament House where they presented a petition opposing the cuts. They have asked for the petitions to be tabled.
