Cowboy dressage a first for the state

A COWBOY dressage competition held in Goornong on Tuesday was a first for the state.

About 16 skilled participants took to the Bendigo Equestrian Centre to compete in the sport, which originated in the United States.

Organiser David Mellor said the sport was a combination of traditional western and classical horsemanship.

He said yesterday's competition was adjudicated by the only Australian endorsed judge Steve Halfpenny.

"It went really well, Mr Mellor said.

"For a small competition it went really well and truly exceeded my expectations."

Mr Mellor said he was planning to organise another event at the end of winter.
