The second XI semi-final played at the QEO last weekend was finished inside one day after Bendigo United was dismissed by Strathdale for just 42.
Last year’s first XI grand final at the QEO was marred by an under-prepared pitch.
“The council has too much at stake this time around not to have the pitch ready,’’ BDCA president Wayne Walsh said.
Walsh said the pitch had little to do with BUCC’s collapse in the second XI.
“The wicket was hard and it played well,’’ Walsh said.
“I’ve spoken with representatives from both second XI clubs and they said it was poor batting, not the pitch.”
BUCC’s opening batsmen survived for the best part of an hour before veteran paceman Ben Irwin (5-15) ripped through the top order. BUCC collapsed from 0-15 to all out 42.
