The hotel has organised a supporters’ bus, as owners Gary and Ann Wilson wanted to help the women’s football team get as many supporters as possible to Coburg City Oval for the big match against La Trobe University.
The Brian Boru has sponsored Thunder centre half-back Angela Foley this season and many of the hotel’s patrons were keen to show their support this weekend.
“We just thought because we sponsor her and they come back here some Sunday nights, we thought if they got in the grand final we’d organise a bus and go down and support them,” Mrs Wilson said.
“There’s a few patrons here that know them who said they want to go down and we thought we’d like to go down too, so we’ll organise a bus.”
The Thunder qualified for the grand final with a thumping preliminary final win against North Ballarat at the weekend.
It was the team’s first win at Coburg, where all Victorian Women’s Football League north-west division finals are played, from four attempts.
Bendigo lost its first match of the season to La Trobe in a second semi-final two weekends ago and Thunder coach Russell Jeffrey put the call out for Bendigo to get behind the team by travelling to Coburg for the match, which begins at 12pm.
The bus leaves from the Brian Boru, 1 McIvor Road, no later than 10am on Sunday and is $10 per person return. For more information or to book, contact the hotel on 5443 5258 by tomorrow.?
