The wall is to commemorate 100 years since the landing of the ANZAC soldiers at Gallipoli in 2015.
Goldfields Library Corporation community engagement and programs co-ordinator Bridget Robertson said 5000 Poppies was a state-wide project.
"Bendigo plans to commemorate the centenary next year and there will be events right across Australia," she said.
"I think it is important for everyone to recognise the efforts of the soldiers who fought during the war and this is one way of doing that."
Ms Robertson said a weekly community craft group would take place at the library every Friday during March and April from 10am to midday.
She said poppies could be knitted, crocheted or made from felt.
"People can pick up patterns from the 5000 Poppies website," she said.
"We will also be making some poppies with students at the schools."
Ms Robertson said a field of poppies would be on display at Federation Square in the lead up to ANZAC Day next year.
The Red Poppy Remembrance Wall at the library will be on display until June 1.
All poppies made in Bendigo will be sent to Melbourne for the 2015 display in Federation Square.
