Not-for-profit organisation Physical Activity Australia gave Ms Hawken the 2013 National Inspirational Instructor of the Year award after a resounding thumbs-up from clients.
Described by her clients as a "bubbly, passionate and motivating" trainer, Ms Hawken stood out from the tough field of monthly winners from around Australia, said Physical Activity Australia chief executive Fiona Bailey.
“The volume and quality of the nominations Sophie received were overwhelming, and all submitted without Sophie’s knowledge,” Ms Bailey said.
"We received nominations for Sophie from people of all ages and fitness levels explaining how Sophie is committed to inspiring her clients to be the best they can be.
“Sophie grew her own business, 3T Fitness, from the ground up and when you meet her it's clear why she has been so successful.
“Sophie's passion for health and fitness combined with her impressive entrepreneurial qualities are a testament to her success in this tough industry and her popularity in the local Bendigo community. She is an inspiration to all."
Starting her career as a combat fitness trainer in the army, Ms Hawken has since been a professional triathlete, as well as fitness coordinator and head trainer at Charles Darwin University Sport.
In 2004 she started her strength and conditioning company 3T Fitness in Darwin before having a baby and moving 3T Fitness to Bendigo.
Now in her fourth year in Bendigo, Ms Hawken said her passion and success lay in providing varied training sessions that pushed everyone to be the best they can.
“Being a trainer comes naturally to me, and having the athlete background certainly gives me first-hand knowledge,” she said.
In recognition of her win, Ms Hawken was a guest of Physical Activity Australia’s at a business chick's breakfast in Melbourne with well-known personal trainer Michelle Bridges.
She was also excited to meet another celebrity trainer, Steve 'Commando' Willis at the event.
