The event, which takes place in 170 countries across the world today, has the theme Streams in the Desert.
Event co-ordinator Jenny Rainsford said it was like a ‘Mexican wave’ of prayer.
“Each year we focus on a particular country and the needs of that country," she said
“Egypt is very much in focus and in people’s minds at the moment.
“We have chosen the themes of streams in the desert; these are streams of hope.”
To mark the occasion there will be several events throughout the day.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Spring Gully will be addressed by Pastor Nathan Glover at 10am.
Bill Hanna will be the speaker at St Killian’s at 10.30am.
Angela Stark will share insights following her visit to Egypt at St. Liborius Catholic Church in Eaglehawk at 11am.
There will be an interactive gathering at the Arnold Street Uniting Church hall at 7pm.
