It was June 2007 when Simon and I were officially introduced by a mutual best friend. It was while I was back home in Bendigo during midyear uni break.
It wasn't love at first sight but a friendship that developed and grew. After a three-week period we discovered it was something stronger.
I went to a few Inglewood reserves footy games where our best mate and Simon both played. It was a few weeks later that I invited Simon to a girlfriend’s birthday. She had attended high school with Simon at Kangaroo Flat Secondary College, and I hadn’t seen many school friends since leaving for uni. That night we started to date, June 30th 2007.
The Proposal:
It was my 21st birthday party, on April 26, 2008. Simon was going to propose at the party but not being fond of public attention he just didn't feel right.
We arrived home and I just wanted bed, but he sat me down on the couch and went and got me a glass of water. He randomly started asking all these odd questions. "Are you sure you want to be with me forever?" do you really love me?" just randomness that was odd I answered "Yes of course. You know I do!"
I did say can we discuss it in the morning and then he pulled out a box, and said, "Well then, will you marry me?"
It was a very magical, private and intimate proposal and suited us so well. Of course the answer was "Yes".
The Wedding Day:
We had planned so many wedding days and had to cancel due to lack of funds but when we found out we were expecting baby number three, that tied it for us.
Simon gave me two wedding dates to choose from and I choose October 27.
It was a small DYI wedding with all three of our children taking part. We did our own invites, and were on a very strict budget as a single income family with three young children. Ebay became my best friend. Those that were close to us were there to celebrate with us.
We married at Eaglehawk Uniting Church, a family church on Simon's side that had welcomed me as a member and are like extended family to our three boys.
The Dress:
The dress I had purchased second-hand three years earlier was a fiasco. Finding a new wedding dress with two weeks to go was a mission on its own. We raced to Bendigo Bridal in the hopes of finding a dress.
They showed me the most stunning ivory gown made of chiffon, off the shelf. I tried it on and it was a perfect fit. We added some straps for show only, and found the perfect matching veil. It was a stunning gown and was definitely meant for me.
The Cake:
The cake was a wedding gift from my dad. Three tiers and square of centre, it was covered with royal icing. The bottom cake was peppermint chocolate mud and the other two tiers were lemon sour cake. We bought matching flowers and ribbon and our own topper that Country Cakes assembled to make our stunning cake.
The Photography:
The photos were taken by Rick Bentley Photography, and what an awesome job he did.
The Honeymoon:
Due to work commitments and three kidlets we didn’t have a honeymoon. We’re looking forward to renewing our vows in 10 years and having a belated honeymoon at that time.
