A GOLDEN Square has been refused bail after today facing charges of rape and false imprisonment in the Bendigo Magistrates Court.
Lewis Basse, 27, faced court charged with rape, assault, false imprisonment, recklessly causing serious injury, theft and making threats to kill.
The court heard Basse sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman at the Rose of Australia in Eaglehawk Road on Tuesday morning.
The assault allegedly occurred after Basse, two other men and a woman held the 22-year-old woman and a 23-year-old male against their will.
The woman told police she was forced into the backseat of her car while the man was bundled into the boot.
The court heard the woman was seated next to a man holding a shovel between his legs, who told her he worked for the Bandidos in Melbourne and "this job involved retrieving $100 of debt for a friend of the club".
It is alleged Basse drove the car into bushland and the male victim was struck three times with a shovel and left severely injured in the bush.
The court heard Basse was later told to drive the woman back to the Rose of Australia.
The woman told police Basse made her get changed in front of him and then used a mobile phone to take a photo of contacts in her diary, threatening to "kill every single one of them" if she went to police.
The court heard Basse forced the woman to perform a sexual act on him.
Police opposed his bail application on the grounds of public safety, the potential to interfere with witnesses and the risk of failing to answer bail.
Police are still searching for the three other co-accused.
The investigation continues.
Basse has been remanded to appear in the Bendigo Magistrates Court on April 30.
