Bendigo mayor Barry Lyons says the new generation Bendigo Library is proving a big hit, with about 14,000 items borrowed in the first week and more than 300 new members signed up.
He said City of Greater Bendigo supported the redevelopment project because it knew it was what the community wanted and needed.
"The figures from the first week are further evidence that we made the right decision,” Cr Lyons said.
He made the comments while attending the first Toddler Time since the re-opening of the facility.
Cr Lyons used the occasion to invite families from across Greater Bendigo to attend a community event today to mark the launch of the new-look library.
"The celebration, held from 10am to 2pm will showcase all this exciting facility has to offer," he said.
"It will also feature live entertainment, activities, exhibitions and workshops."
