Stars perform on water, rifle range, mats, courts

WHETHER it was the water, shooting range or judo mat, competitors from across central Victoria starred in December.

The great feats will be evaluated on Tuesday evening by the judging panel for the Bendigo Advertiser-WIN Television Sports Star of the Year.

The long-running awards are sponsored by Bendigo Bank.

December's stars included Adam Hawkins, helmsman for Victoire, handicap winner of the Sydney to Hobart yacht classic.

Corvan Hughes was helmsman for Deja Vu in the Sydney to Hobart.

On the basketball court, Bendigo Spirit guard Kristi Harrower was the Women's National Basketball League's Player of the Month.

Spirit coach Bernie Harrower earned the WNBL Coach of the Month title.

On the rifle range, Emma Cox won the women's trap at the Oceania shooting titles.

Castlemaine's Gary Mullens won the 25m rapid fire pistol title at the Oceania Shooting Federation Continental Championships.

Tara Smith won gold in swimming, and Francis Bush and Sally Brockley-Moon won gold and silver in the tenpin bowling pairs at the Special Olympics in Sydney.

Tristan Penhall and Jolie Middleton won the six-round Victoria Rally Championship.

Judo star Bryan Jolly won the under-18 under-50kg, under-21 under-55kg and senior under-60kg finals at the Victorian titles.
