It is on these days that Ms Bowers volunteers at the Golden Square Swimming Pool. 

She works in the kiosk, admitting people entry to the pool, selling food and drinks to hungry swimmer and occasionally helping with the barbecue.  

"I love it," she said. 

"I look forward to Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday every week.

"I have met some really nice people and the committee is so helpful." 

Ms Bowers said she got involved with the pool through her daughter. 

"I have never volunteered before (the pool)," she said. 

"My daughter was involved when the council tried to close the pool.

"They were looking for volunteers so I thought I would give it a go. 

"I wish I had got involved earlier.

Ms Bower said she loves watching the children and their families enjoy the facilities and said she had made lots of friends. 

"It gets me out mixing with people," she said. 

"We have a great president in Ken and everything runs smoothly."
