Ita Buttrose wins over Bendigo writers

"BOYS should be buried when they're 13 and dug up when they're 20".

That was one of the humorous pieces of advice courtesy of Ita Buttrose today at the Bendigo Writers Festival.

The media stalwart spoke about her career as a journalist, being the co-author of 10 books and motherhood during a lunch at the Bendigo Art Gallery.

Ms Buttrose had the crowd roaring with laughter as she spoke about raising children and a trip to the supermarket with her son, who was a teenager at the time, and how he had insisted on drawing attention to her celebrity status.

The Bendigo Writers Festival is on today and tomorrow.
