Eaglehawk couple Sarah Morey and Luke Rijken welcomed baby Braxtyn at Bendigo Health.
Rochester couple Sarah and Luke Ryan were celebrating the birth of their new baby boy Braxton up the road at St John of God hospital.
Sarah Morey was surprised to hear of the coincidence when contacted by the Bendigo Advertiser on Friday.
"It's definitely a shock but that is pretty cool," Sarah said.
Father Luke Rijken said Braxtyn was a great first baby and was sleeping really well.
Sarah and Luke Ryan were surprised to hear that such a different name had been repeated on the same day, especially with the parents sharing the same christian names.
Braxton is Sarah and Luke's first child and the first boy in their extended family.
"All in all, he's been really well," Luke said.
"He's just a dream."
Bendigo Health women and children services manager Fiona Faulks said she hadn't experienced such a coincidence in her 20 years as a midwife.
"This is very rare indeed," she said.
