The trio was moving furniture when their vehicle caught fire on the Bridgewater-Serpentine Road.
Jodie Spencer was in the car when the incident occurred.
"We were just driving along and we noticed the tray was on fire," she said.
"So we pulled over and got out just in time."
Fire crews have now stopped the spread of the fire and are mopping up.
The fire is now listed as 'under control'.
Nine fire units attended the scene.
UPDATE 2.20PM: Police say the grass fire began after a car was found alight.
"The fire is still not under control," Senior Constable Barry Taylor said.
"The fire has now jumped the Bridgewater-Serpentine Road.
"The Bridgewater-Serpentine Road is blocked from the Bridgewater side and at Serpentine.
"We don't believe any properties are threatened at this stage."
UPDATE 2.15PM: The grass fire is still burning out of control.
The Country Fire Authority's Fire Ready app says there are nine vehicles attending to the fire.
