The award recognises people who provide a significant contribution to the region, demonstrate outstanding leadership and excel in particular areas.
The 2013 citizen of the year Linda Beilharz has reflected on her time after after receiving the honour for her community work and achievements in human endurance.
"I have been been able to participate in some of the things the city does, as citizen of the year, as well as welcome new people at citizenship ceremonies and help link them to the community," she said.
"It definitely gives you a greater responsibility with your connection to the city."
Ms Beilharz said the title would be an enduring honour.
"It will be one of those things that lives inside of me, connects me to Bendigo and motivates me."
