Bendigo aces net doubles titles at regionals

DOUBLES crowns for two Bendigo teams were netted at the weekend's Inter-Regional tennis championships in Creswick.

Danielle Bowles and Tova Penno joined forces to score a 9-7 victory in the women's open doubles fina.

The Bendigo aces, who are usually opponents in the BTA's premier league, defeated No.2 seeds Hope Curtis-McDonald and Helene Steward.

Top seeds in the 18-under boys doubles, Isaac Watson and Zac Lethlean did not concede a game in a 9-0 victory in the title decider against Ben Crowe and Ryan Dobson.

Many of the Bendigo Tennis Association's stars shone across the three-day championships on the Mount Prospect Tennis Club's grasscourts.

Lethlean won through to the 18-under singles final against No.4 seed Toby Timms.

A hard-fought contest ended in a 2-6 6-4 11-9 wini for Timms.

Watson and Matilda Walsh were third in the 18-under mixed doubles.

Barwon won the inter-regional teams title for the sixth year running.

Central Highlands earned the most improved award.

The men's open singles title at the Inter-Regionals was won by Matt Hicks. The women's open singles final was won by Carolyn McGann.

A great run by Hicks includes the doubles victory with Adam Lasky.

The mixed doubles champions were Hicks and McGann.

Three big days of tennis action at Mount Prospect included singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Age groups played at the Inter-Regional titles were open, 45-plus, 22-under, 18-under, 16-under, 14-under and 12-under.
