A Wellsford man will face Bendigo Magistrate's Court on Friday morning charged with murder.
Homicide Squad detectives charged the 46-year-old man after the discovery of human remains in a burnt out vehicle belonging to missing Kerang man William Stevenson in Wellsford on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wellsford man has been charged with one count of murder.
Indian police say a teenager was gang-raped in two separate attacks and then died after being set on fire, sparking protests in the eastern city of Kolkata and the capital.
The 16-year-old was first assaulted on October 26 and again the next day by a group of more than six men.
The second rape occurred near her family's home in the town of Madhyagram, 25 kilometres north of Kolkata, after reporting the first attack at a police station.
