DEE Hocking recorded the narrowest of victories in the Flack Advisory Distance Series race for athletes over 800m at Bendigo's Tom Flood Sports Centre on Saturday night.
As athletes battled blustery conditions, Hocking looked like being a comfortable winner with 100 metres to go, but Jack Dooley rocketed home from sixth place.
Hocking was adjudged the winner in a photo-finish, running a time of 2.48 minutes. Dooley recorded fastest time of 2.14 minutes.
Dooley will contest the Maryborough Gift (120m) on New Year's Day.
Early leader Mandy Worthington finished third.
A 1000m will be run on January 16 from 6.50pm.
