Droppings are being deposited in the water, on paths and across lawn areas – causing many families to avoid using the facility.
One parent this week said the recreation facility was “littered with duck poo’’.
“It’s disgusting,’’ he said. “Ever since the pool opened, it’s been filthy.
“They should be raking the grass and using pressure washers more often.’’
City of Greater Bendigo active and healthy communities manager Patrick Jess said ducks were an issue at all pools, but particularly at the aquatic centre.
“We acknowledge the ducks are an issue, there seems to have been a spike in the numbers this year,’’ he said. “We have asked Belgravia to monitor the issue and sweep, hose and use pressure washers as necessary.
“Our health and local laws department regularly monitors water quality at all of our swimming pools, including the aquatic centre – but it’s a difficult site as it backs on to the wetlands.
“We are confident with the water quality, but need to keep a close eye on it and will monitor it more closely.
Mr Jess said if the issue continued, longer term solutions would need to be considered.
“Being able to find a place to put your towel down and sit with your family is proving difficult,’’ he said. “We want people to feel comfortable and able to enjoy themselves, so we will continue to monitor the situation.''
