The City of Greater Bendigo announced on Thursday it has awarded a tender to STI Contractors to resurface the wet synthetic pitch at Hockey Central Victoria's complex in Ironbark.
The pitch will be the first of its type in Victoria and is expected to be ready for the winter hockey season.
"The ‘wet-based’ pitch is the latest in cutting edge technology for the sport and will enable Bendigo to host national and international hockey competitions, as the pitch will be approved by the International Hockey Federation,” CoGB manager active and healthy communities Pat Jess said.
“Overall, the replacement pitch will cost $320,000 of which Hockey Central Victoria has raised $240,000.
"The association is to be commended for its 10 years of good financial management to ensure it was able to cover a majority of the costs and the city was pleased to provide the additional $80,000 needed.”
Council has also tipped-in funds for new lights to be installed at Epsom-Huntly Recreation Reserve's number five soccer pitch.
Commlec Services will install the the 250 lux competition-grade lighting, which is used at a semi-professional level.
Epsom is the proposed host venue for a Bendigo-based Victorian National Premier League soccer club.
