La Trobe University Bendigo future student advisor Kristy Shay said it was critical for students to seek help with their course preferences.
"There are many pathways to get into a course," she said.
"I encourage students to continue to do their research and talk to their career practitioners, the institutions, TAFEs and private colleges."
The change of preference period is open until December 23.
Round one course offers are available online on January 17 from 2pm.
