Beau Ritchi, a small business owner, was inundated with calls of support from friends, family and strangers on Monday.
The Bendigo Advertiser also fielded calls from generous community members wanting to support Mr Ritchi.
Mr Ritchi’s work trailer and contents, worth about $10,000, were stolen from outside his home in Webster Street, Long Gully, between midnight Friday and 8am Saturday.
Hume and Iser Home Hardware in Bendigo donated about $3500 worth of tools and equipment to Mr Ritchi after reading about his story in the Bendigo Advertiser.
“Words can’t describe what this means,” Mr Ritchi said.
“It is a massive help.”
Stephen Iser said Hume and Iser was a community-minded organisation and that's why the business wanted to reach out and help Mr Ritchi.
Mr Ritchi thanked the community for their kind words and generosity.
“Everyone’s support has put a positive spin on what has happened,” he said.
“I have had calls from people I don’t even know who are offering me equipment to use.
"My friends have all helped me as well.
“It is a reminder of how generous people in Bendigo can be.
“It has been very warming.”
Care Beyond Measure managing director Sam Tayeh said when he first heard of Beau's devastating story he had no hesitation in lending a hand.
"I have a lot of tools in my shed that he can use if he likes," he said.
Mr Tayeh said it was important for the community to be generous, especially at this time of year.
Bendigo police say they are investigating the matter.
Sergeant Tony Kekich warned people to look out for anyone selling a trailer or tools.
Anyone with information should call police on 5448 1300 or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
