The City of Greater Bendigo has gutted the old building, which will feature a new layout, second entrance, flexible spaces and new technology when it is re-opened.
Mayor Barry Lyons said the project would be completed on time.
“Council is ensuring our residents have the space, facilities and infrastructure needed to accommodate our growing population,” he said.
“The new generation Bendigo Library will provide a 21st Century environment in which to read, learn, socialise, play and even enjoy a nice cup of coffee in the library’s very own cafe.
“The city is planning a huge community celebration on February 8 to launch this fantastic facility and I encourage everyone to come along to see all that it has to offer.”
The temporary library in Pall Mall will close on December 21 to transfer books and equipment.
