Bendigo's Rochelle and Kerrin Shortis are no ordinary people.
Both were working their way up in the horse racing industry as jockeys when they had their careers cut short by serious head injuries from falls six months apart in 2000.
The sisters and their mum Margaret relived their emotional journey with Bendigo Advertiser video journalist Leigh Sharp this week.
Rochelle and Kerrin will be part of a special event at Caulfield racecourse on Saturday - National Jockeys Trust Day.
The Melbourne Racing Club has named a race in their honour.
This is their story.
