It was another busy week here with four games, on the road at Chicago and Minnesota, at home versus Charlotte and on the road at Washington.
We got to Chicago the day before we played, so I tried to have a bit of a look around.
I have heard a lot of positive things about Chicago from my friends.
I went up in the John Hancock Tower that had an observation deck. It had great views of the Chicago skyline.
I haven’t been over to the east coast of America much before, so anytime we have some time to look around, I try to make the most of it.
Playing at the United Center was a cool experience.
They had all the Chicago Bulls championship banners up in the rafters, along with the retired numbers of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.
It was cool to see Australian basketball great Luc Longley’s name up on three of those banners.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the win, going down 96-81. I scored my first bucket in the NBA, on a floater in the second quarter.
Your first basket is always something you’ll remember.
I remember my first basket for the Australian Boomers came in Argentina against Argentina in 2009.
Peter Crawford drove the ball, passed it out to me and I hit a three pointer. Thanks for the pass PC!
In Minnesota, we had a tough loss.
Kevin Love is playing as good as anyone in the league right now and Ricky Rubio was throwing some great passes, too. We went down 124 to 95.
The next game versus Charlotte we dropped, 86-80, so we headed to Washington needing to get a win.
In Washington we got our first win on the road. It was an exciting game. We won in overtime 103 to 96.
I played a few minutes in the first half.
Then in the second half I came in with about nine minutes left in the third quarter and stayed in the rest of the game, including overtime.
I had to defend their shooting guard Bradley Beal, who is very talented. I was trying to move the ball, defend and set screens.
I’m glad we (the rookies) have been doing conditioning with our strength coach because it definitely came in handy on Saturday.
It really does go to show you have to be ready whenever.
I may have earned a new nickname from Kyrie Irving, pictured above, and Jarrett Jack this week.
I’ll wait to see if it sticks before I tell you guys what it is. I’m not sure how they came up with it.
Does anybody have any guesses as to what it could be?
If anyone would like to hear about anything in particular, you can tweet to me @matthewdelly.
Have a great week everyone.
