The simple answer at the time was to bring it forward two days.
- Barry Lyons
The City of Greater Bendigo announced on Friday the community event will be at the Bendigo Stadium on December 23.
Mayor Barry Lyons said businesses could sponsor a table for $300.
"As well as sponsoring a table, businesses can make a financial contribution that will be put toward the purchase of food parcels to be distributed to guests," he said.
"Members of the public are also welcome to make a donation or they can sponsor a chair for $30.
"Transport, entertainment, decorations and audio equipment need to be provided, so any support to assist the stadium would be gratefully received.
"We would also love to see some of Bendigo's big names in sport and entertainment attend the lunch and provide some Christmas cheer."
"Last year we had it in the town hall but we outgrew that," Cr Lyons said.
"We aimed for Christmas Day but it was unavailable Christmas Day - we just couldn't get it.
"I suppose you'd say we got caught short with where we were going to have it.
"The simple answer at the time was to bring it forward two days.
"It's about gathering people together who usually don't get together and we'll put on a really good professional show and I'm sure they'll remember it."
Bendigo Stadium offered to supply the venue and donated $10,000.
