But it was his second punt that set Twitter abuzz in the United States.
Irwin-Hill was first called on to punt deep inside the first quarter of the University of Arkansas' season opener against Louisiana at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
His right-foot punt sailed 45 yards to the Louisiana 31-yard line where some great support work from the Arkansas special teams resulted in a two-yard loss back to the 29-yard line.
But Irwin-Hill's second kick with his left foot on the run to the six-yard line created a stir in the US.
Among the Tweets were:
''Arkansas punter Sam Irwin-Hiill has punted twice today. Once right footed. Once left footed. Both on purpose. Will be fun to watch this year.''
''Sam Irwin-Hill goes left-footed and rugby style with the punt. Aussie Aussie Aussie!''
''What the Sam Irwin-Hill? Right leg left leg crazy stuff man''
''I wonder if Sam Irwin-Hill was related to Steve Irwin?''
''Now that's kicking talent by Sam Irwin-Hill rugby style, left footed on the run.''
''Sam Irwin-Hill just rugby-style kicked a ball with his LEFT foot to the 6-yard line. The Aussie is fun.''
Irwin-Hill's next appointment with the Razorbacks will be against Samford University next Saturday.
Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema praised Sam Irwin-Hill during a press conference leading up to Saturday's season opener.
''Sam Irwin-Hill is a very gifted football player who has the ability to change field position as well with his legs,'' he said.
