Muirhead, 35, one-time host of the ABC's The Collectors pleaded guilty in the Tasmanian Supreme Court today to two charges of accessing and one of possessing child pornography.
The charges are estimated to have involved 2173 children over a four-month period before he was caught in June 2010.
Prosecutor Maitland Lincoln said Muirhead used peer-to-peer file sharing programs to access the pornography at his home in Hobart's Battery Point.
Mr Lincoln said Muirhead faced "really serious" matters.
