All great cities have great cafes at their heart.
What’s also encouraging about this building reputation is that it’s the cafes themselves working hard to lift the bar.
Clearly, if you read the special report by Bendigo Advertiser journalists Josh Fagan and Kristen Alebakis on pages 8 and 9 today, the community is lapping up this growing focus on coffee and cafes.
Not too long back another Addy journalist Lauren Mitchell wrote a WE feature one Saturday revealing how cafes were becoming the new meeting rooms for business people in Bendigo.
I can understand that – a great cafe atmosphere and great coffee has to make any business meeting better, doesn’t it?
One thing is clear – if you love coffee, then you have an opinion on coffee.
Ask a room full of people who makes the best coffee in town and you’re sure to start a robust debate.
Sure people have different tastes, but one thing all coffee lovers display is tremendous loyalty.
If a coffee lover finds a great brew, not only do they return again and again but they will surely strongly defend that cafe to anyone who dares knock it.
Such banter sits at the heart of the cafe culture Bendigo is building.
It’s also a reason why it’s important.
Many areas across central Victoria are enjoying and cashing in on the growing interest in good coffee as well, with places such as Castlemaine and Kyneton earning great reputations and welcoming plenty of locals and visitors alike.
The Bendigo Advertiser is calling on people to support their favourite cafe in a bid to find central Victoria’s best coffee. Time to stay loyal to your favourite brew.
