Bendigo councillor Elise Chapman quizzed over company debts

A COMPANY associated with City of Greater Bendigo councillor Elise Chapman has faced court for unpaid bills.

Ms Chapman yesterday faced a registrars’ hearing after being summonsed for oral examination in relation to debts owed to Regional Publishers (Western) Pty Ltd, owners of the Bendigo Advertiser.

The money is owed by Auzzie Real Estate Pty Ltd, of which Ms Chapman is listed as the director and secretary.

A default judgement order was made against Auzzie Real Estate at the Bendigo Magistrates Court on December 4 last year.

According to the Magistrates Court of Victoria website, registrars can issue a summons ordering a debtor to attend court and provide details as to their current financial situation under oath.

The debtor must answer questions regarding their financial circumstances, such as details of their income, assets and expenses.

During last year’s local government elections, Ms Chapman campaigned for stronger economic management from the City of Greater Bendigo.

In a statement printed in the Bendigo Advertiser, Ms Chapman said she would “work hard to make council more efficient, effective and economic in all it does’’.
