A SOUTHERN 80 water-skier was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital at the weekend.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the skier suffered head injuries and possibly spinal injuries when he came off his skis about 4.15pm on Saturday afternoon while competing in the Bakers’ Blitz.
“It occurred on the NSW side of the river about 4km west of Moama,” the spokesman said.
“I don’t know the circumstances but he lost consciousness and he had back soreness and a loss of sensation in the legs.
“He was in a serious but stable condition.”
The spokesman said ambulance crews also treated another skier who was taken to Echuca hospital with a leg injury.
In a separate incident, a 39-year-old man was yesterday flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital after he was thrown from a speeding boat.
A Victoria Ambulance spokesperson said the man suffered severe leg fractures when the boat in which he was travelling hit a jetty on the river near Pianta Road in Echuca at 1.24pm.
No one else was injured in the incident.
