Those of us who have been unfortunate enough to watch a family member suffer a mental illness are testimony to the fact that the services offered for many years have been totally unsatisfactory and this further cut-back almost seems to be a convenient excuse to continue to “mistreat” these patients.
Lack of proper, clean, long-term facilities, constant shortage of caring nursing staff and trained available psychiatrists has been the norm for years.
With the ever increasing rise in mental health illnesses we are running out of time to “plan for better outcomes”.
Surely Lloyd Williams understands that this “joke” is going to have tragic consequences for many families and the greater community. Would it be more acceptable to demand funding for physical illnesses?
Perhaps those making these life-threatening decisions need to be a little more educated in the prevalence of mental illness.
