Police said the woman was arrested at a unit in Retreat Road, Spring Gully, this morning.
She was interviewed and charged this afternoon.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said paramedics were called to the scene at 4.38am.
The spokesman said the woman was taken to Bendigo Health in a serious but stable condition.
Police set up a crime scene at a Spring Gully unit.
A police guard was placed outside the property.
Police confirmed they were investigating a domestic-related incident.
The flywire screen on a window in one of the units at the residential property has been pushed in and household items have been strewn across the front yard.
The police cordon also covers a pile of items, including a kitchen knife, sitting on Retreat Road outside the property.
The pile also includes an esky, set of keys, mobile phone, cigarette packet, toilet paper and stubbies of beer.
A witness has told the Bendigo Advertiser police and detectives were gathered at the scene early this morning.
