Andrea Wilson
Number 5
DOB: 5-12-1985
Height: 172cm
A stalwart at Bendigo, Andrea Wilson was one of the inaugural members of team Spirit in 2007/08 and has been with the club throughout its short history.
Wilson might not play the most minutes in the squad, but she provides backup in the guard positions, while her experience and team-first attitude endears her to her team-mates and the Spirit coaching staff.
Chantella Perera
Number 6
DOB: 7-6-1986
Height: 176cm
One of only three Spirit players with WNBL championship-winning experience - at Canberra - Perera has been a welcome addition to the squad this season.
Hard-nosed and with the on-court attitude of a street fighter, Perera goes where angels fear to tread on the basketball court.
The guard gives the Spirit a lift coming off the bench and has the ability to hurt teams on the scoreboard while never shirking her defensive responsibilities.
Could play a bigger role at other clubs, but after nearly giving WNBL away Perera is back in love with basketball and feels refreshed at Bendigo.
Chelsea Aubry
Number 14
DOB: 27-6-1984
Height: 188cm
A key member of Canada’s Olympic Games team at London 2012, Aubry has returned to Bendigo for her fourth season, fitter than ever and in great touch.
Aubry’s performances in the WNBL are often greater than the sum of her statistics, with the forward regularly asked to guard some of the tallest timber in the league and giving away plenty of size in the process.
Aubry has played 80 matches for Bendigo and her dead-eye when given a look at the basket provides an extra option for the Spirit’s offence.
Ebony Antonio
Number 12
DOB: 18-12-1991
Height: 173cm
Joined the Spirit from the West Coast Waves after making the move east to play for the Bendigo Lady Braves in the SEABL last season.
Antonio is learning from one of the best point guards around in Kristi Harrower and is set to continue developing her game in Bendigo.
Gives her all in limited court time.
Gabrielle Richards
Number 20
DOB: 19-11-1984
Height: 188cm
In career-best form this season, Richards’ importance to the Spirit’s flying start cannot be overstated.
Richards continues to battle a knee problem but delivers week-in, week-out and is averaging more points and rebounds than ever this season.
The inaugural Spirit centre regularly gives away size and athleticism to some of the WNBL’s stars, but the bigger the task the better she plays.
Always prepared to take a battering to haul in rebounds, Richards has received some welcome relief against the league’s tall timber since the addition of US import Kelsey Griffin and Rachel Herrick this season.
Hayley Munro
Number 8
DOB: 18-3-1988
Height: 185cm
After returning from US college Munro contacted the Spirit during pre-season hoping for a trial and has given the team added depth.
A swing player capable of taking on players bigger or smaller than her, Munro provides extra cover in the Spirit’s defensive machine.
Munro showed at college level she can impact the scoreboard while also bringing down rebounds and will only improve the longer she’s in the WNBL system.
Jane Chalmers
Number 24
DOB: 10-3-1983
Height: 160cm
One of the smallest players in the league but also one of the most determined, Chalmers isn’t afraid to put her body on the line for the Spirit.
The diminutive point guard has played all six seasons with the club and has provided superb back-up to Kristi Harrower.
The Echuca native notched her 100th game for the Spirit last season and richly deserves to be a part of Bendigo’s push for a championship.
Kelly Wilson
Number 22
DOB: 1-1-1985
Height: 170cm
Wilson ended a superb SEABL season for her new team Knox with selection in the team of the year and the point guard has continued her brilliant form in the WNBL this season.
Wilson, a dangerous shooter from beyond the three-point arc, is back to her offensive best averaging more than 10 points a game – nearly double her output from last season.
In her sixth season with the Spirit, Wilson continues to battle lingering knee problems but has been a driving force behind Bendigo’s stellar season.
Kelsey Griffin
Number 23
DOB: 2-7-1987
Height: 188cm
WNBA imports are expected to make an impact in the WNBL, but few have made as big a splash as Kelsey Griffin.
Griffin has set the court alight with three MVP performances in her first four games for Bendigo.
Griffin’s shooting under fierce pressure is a class above and she has taken much of the heat off Kristi Harrower and Gabe Richards at both ends of the court.
A tenacious competitor who gives her all for the team, Griffin could be the X-factor which delivers the Spirit its first ever championship in March.
Kristi Harrower
Number 10
DOB: 4-3-1975
Height: 163cm
Quite simply the heartbeat of the Spirit. Back to her MVP-winning best after an injury-riddled campaign last season, Harrower’s desire to win a championship in the twilight of her illustrious career is driving the team’s brilliant performances.
Still a point guard of international quality at the age of 37, Harrower’s importance to the Spirit can’t be overstated and keeping her fit and fresh for the finals will be crucial to the team’s hopes of the ultimate success.
Retired from international matches after leading the Australian Opals to a bronze medal with a vintage performance at the London Olympics.
Madeleine Garrick
Number 9
DOB: 1-4-1992
Height: 179cm
Garrick returned to the Spirit this season a much-improved player after developing her game at the AIS for the past three years.
Athletic, quick and with the ability to find space to shoot, Garrick only knows one way – flat out.
Often the first player to scrap for a loose ball, the Shepparton product has drawn comparisons with two-time Spirit MVP Tess Madgen for her all-round skills and is improving as fast as she plays.
Rachel Herrick
Number 21
DOB: 17-11-1986
Height: 192cm
A last-minute addition to the roster from Adelaide, Herrick provides crucial back-up to Gabe Richards.
The WNBL journeywoman is at her fourth club and her ability to restrict opposition’s talls while Richards rests on the bench will be decisive in keeping Bendigo’s number one centre fresh for the end of the season.
Herrick has the ability to score the occasional basket and make her more fancied opponents defend.
Rebecca Campigli
Number 4
DOB: 7-6-1990
Height: 177cm
Another of the Spirit’s developing backcourt players, Campigli started with Bendigo last season.
Campigli has represented state and national teams at underage level and has a bright future in the game.
Renae Camino
Number 7
DOB: 19-11-1986
Height: 177cm
Camino has the talent to be a superstar of the competition but a pre-season calf injury delayed her start to the 2012/13 season.
The injury may be a blessing in disguise for Bendigo, with the Lady Braves’ reigning SEABL MVP set to fire in the second half of the season as the Spirit heads for finals.
The former Logan Thunder guard has been setting the training court alight and her ability to score big makes the Spirit one of the most potent attacking teams in the WNBL.
Ashleigh Stonehouse
Number 11
DOB: 22-5-1992
Height: 185cm
A project player at the Spirit, the 20-year-old is on Bendigo’s roster for the third season.
Stonehouse was a star underage player, representing the Australian Gems at under-19 level and has plenty of scope for improvement with just three WNBL matches to her name so far.
