Don’t worry, Santa won’t mind the rain

THERE’S no doubt the cancellation of last night’s community carols event at Lake Weeroona was a shame. Most youngsters, and indeed families, look forward to the event each year – singing joyous songs as they eagerly await Santa’s arrival. But it’s perhaps more of a shame for the many community groups which spend countless hours each year preparing the event for the people of Bendigo and its surrounds.Until noon yesterday, organisers were hopeful the event would go ahead – and had their fingers and toes crossed. Many, many volunteers give their time to put together the carols, and we thank them for all they have done this year. But we can’t help the weather – and this year more than most we shouldn’t be ungrateful for the rain.Yes, we missed out on carols – but they’ll be back bigger and better than ever next year. And if you read the story on pages 8 and 9 today, you will see that nature has provided a wonderful gift this Christmas – and for that we should all be thankful. So put your Christmas carols CD on tonight, and sing in the rain with the children – they will love that just as much.
