MORE than 175 mountain bike competitors tackled the Cavagna Road track off Story's Road, Mandurang on Sunday when the first Bendigo MTB Epic was run.

Cyclists from near and far were at the two-day MTB extravaganza that included Saturday's clinic with Australian champions Rob Eva and Paul Rowney.
The first Epic in Victoria involved racing distances of 45 km or 85 km.
In the open men's race, Murray Spink raced the 85 km in a time of 3 hours 15.39 minutes.
The Melbourne ace beat Bendigo star Tim Hucker by 65 seconds.
The skilful Hucker has also excelled at road and track racing.
Third placegetter was Castlemaine's Lachlan Norris, just one second behind Hucker.
Bendigo's Jacob Lea raced to seventh place alongside Sydney's Aiden Leifmen, winner of the first round of the national series.
In the women's open race, Caroline Jackson completed the 85 km showdown in 3:44.02 and was more than 40 minutes clear of runner-up Juliette Begg.
In the masters men's race, Rob Eva won in a time of 3:38.26.
The runner-up was Craig Peacock, just 58 seconds adrift at the end of the 85 km.
A previous monthly winner in ifThe Advertiser Southern Cross TEN Sports Star of the Year, Jarrod Moroni won the sport men's race in a time of 3:25.34.
In the veterans class, Ros Bradley, of Bendigo, was runner-up in the 45 km race.
A star on the road and track for many years, Rick Flood, of Bendigo, was runner-up in the masters men event.
Another of Bendigo's rising stars, Rob Hucker won the under-18s race ahead of Luke Knox, of Mandurang.
