Hawks fall to third rung on A-grade ladder

EAGLEHAWK dropped to third on the A-grade netball ladder as Sandhurst’s unbeaten run continued in Saturday’s play in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football Netball League.The Sandhurst line-up dominated the clash with the Hawks on the Bendigo Aquatic Centre court, adjacent to the QEO, to win by 25 goals.Sandhurst defenders Ashleigh Cole and Georgia Tatnall were in top form.Although the Two Blues tried to mix it up in the goal circle by using three different goalers, the formidable Sandhurst defence was in control.At the other end of the court, young gun Maddison Exell scored 29 goals at 80 per cent accuracy.Claire Gibbs chipped in with 25 goals as Sandhurst won 54-29.The Hawks’ attack was led Christie Carmody on 18 goals..Sandhurst’s best were Exell, Cole and Tatnall.The Strathfieldsaye Storm line-up took on Maryborough at Tannery Lane.Maryborough led 8-5 at quarter-time.The borough won the second quarter, 12-5.Storm’s defence lifted its intensity in the third quarter, but the Maryborough attack rarely missed.With a quarter to play, the Magpies led 30-16.A few changes to Storm’s line-up and an injury to a Maryborough player meant the momentum swung a little in the last.Storm won the fourth quarter, 11-8, but Maryborough was victorious, 38-27.The Gisborne team won every quarter on its way to a 61-32 victory against South Bendigo at Gardiner Reserve.Golden Square led by just five goals at quarter-time of the clash with Castlemaine on the Camp Reseve court.The blue and gold powered away after half-time to win 57-30.
