Strathdale has catapulted to the top of the Football Federation Victoria central region division one ladder, after an exciting 2-1 win against Epsom on Sunday at Epsom-Huntly Reserve.Blues’ striker Fergus Rawluk, who has scored eight goals since being elevated to division one, once again stole the show scoring two late second-half goals.Both teams created scoring chances in the opening 20 minutes.Strathdale’s Scott Linford and Sam Robertson combined well, while Epsom’s Robbie Mercuri and Jared Ridsdale created opportunities for the home side.Epsom was first to break through, with Leigh Merchant crossing the ball to Jake Allport to score.The Blues were determined to equalise after the break.Midfielders Stuart Gough and Nic Watson worked hard to set up chances.In a matter of minutes, Rawluk changed the game, first, slipping his marker and firing home to equalise.Rawluk sprinted free again to put the Blues in front.Strathdale’s defence led by Elia Andrews, Robertson, Andrew Mertens and Dan De Blauw held strong in the final minutes to ensure a 2-1 victory for the Blues against a fast-finishing Epsom.Spring Gully scored a 3-1 victory against Castlemaine at Soldiers Memorial Park in Chewton.The only goal in the first half came from Gully’s coach Dennis Barnett.Gully’s Luke Tempest was lively in the second term, scoring twice to push the visitors’ lead out to 3-0.Castlemaine fought back and a great cross from Gabe Gianni-Meave set up a late goal for Tim Dooley.Eaglehawk had too much firepower for Swan Hill as the Borough scored a 9-1 win at Truscott Reserve.Eaglehawk’s Dan Kelly scored three goals and Simon Doherty scored two, while Shane Eleveld, Sam Gowers, Nathan Hamblin and Shaun Allen struck a goal each.Swan Hill’s Ahmed Al-Hasani scored in the second half, but Eaglehawk was too quick and skilful.Moama Border Raiders were too strong at home for Golden City, winning 3-0 against the Rams.The Eaglehawk women’s team continues to dominate, with a 13-0 victory over Swan Hill.Maika Rutyter-Hooley struck five goals, and Carlee Frankel and Chloe Parker scored three apiece.The Spring Gully women’s side fought off a fast-finishing Castlemaine side to win 3-2.Castlemaine’s Becky Newton and Briget Wood were instrumental in the team’s second half performance as both scored goals.Epsom had an easy 10-0 win over Strathdale, while Moama Border scored an 11-0 win against an eight-women Golden City team.
