THE Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football-Netball League has welcomed two new board members.Ron Cawthan and Beres Fitch were elected on to the board at Tuesday night’s annual general meeting.“We’re rapt to have both of those guys on board, and we think they’ll bring another perspective to the board,’’ BFNL chief executive officer Steven Oliver said yesterday.Cawthan is a former great of Castlemaine, where he played 343 senior games. He recently spent five years as the Magpies’ president from 2005 to 2009 and in October was inducted into the BFNL Hall of Fame.“We’ve been looking for a country representative on the board for a fair while, so it’s terrific Ron has put his hand up,’’ Oliver said.“Ron has had five years as the president of a club, so he’s impeccably placed to make a further contribution.’’Fitch is a former long-time central umpire of the BFNL.“Not only does Beres bring a wealth of knowledge from the umpiring side of things, but with his involvement at club level and his business contacts, he will be a great asset,’’ Oliver said.“We think they will be two fantastic additions to the board.’’Meanwhile, the vacant chairman’s position is expected to be filled at the next board meeting, which will be held over the following fortnight.Damian Drum, who has held the position as BFNL chairman since 2005, stood down at the AGM.“We’re very confident that the chairman’s position will be filled at our next board meeting,’’ Oliver said.
