Braves coach Lukas Carey says his team’s greatest challenge this year has been themselves, with the team failing to find consistent form throughout the season.Despite having several experienced WNBL and SEABL players in the side, including Katrina Hibbert, Kelly Wilson, Lauren King and Eleanor Haring, Carey said the girls still have not played their best team basketball this year.“We’ve got some players who haven’t brought their A-game to the team this season,” he said.“We knew that it was going to be tough to bring everyone new together – new players, new coaches, new everything.“It’s great to talk about who we’re playing against, but really we’re Jekyll and Hyde and we could come out and thrash this team or be beaten.”Despite not playing at their full capability, Carey said the Lady Braves have the opportunity to make amends for their inconsistent season with a home court win over the Brisbane Spartans tonight at Bendigo Stadium.“We’re one game out of third, but we’re also one game out of ninth,” he said.“We’re disappointed with our home record and haven’t won enough games as home. Teams are coming in here and winning, which isn’t right.”“We’ve got a better road record than home record, which is upsetting, but if we win this Brisbane game we can push back up to where we need to be.”“We’ve been talking about a home final and if we get this win, all of our dropped games disappear.”Bendigo won in Brisbane by 13 earlier this year. The Symes Motors Bendigo Braves need to end a two-game losing streak tonight to ensure they hold on to top place on the SEABL east conference ladder. The Braves will also face Brisbane at home, and will need to make amends for two home-court losses to Nunawading and Sandringham in as many weeks.Braves coach Ben Harvey said his players really need to be accountable in tonight’s match.“Brisbane has Greg Vanderjagt, who is 6’10’’ and is averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds per game. It’s going to be a very good match-up with Ivan (McFarlin) this week.”“We really need to improve in the guard department. We need to get more out of Kevin (Probert) and Warren (Randall) because that area has been exposed in recent weeks.“We’ve been lucky enough that the second team (on the SEABL table) has lost some games as well, but we really need to step it up from now.”
