Savage aims to increase lead in RetireInvest distance series heat

EAGLEHAWK athlete Tom Savage will be aiming to increase his lead in the race for aggregate honours in tonight’s RetireInvest distance series 800m heat at Bendigo’s Tom Flood Sports Centre.The athletics action will be part of the Bendigo and District Cycling Club’s Christmas carnival.The long-running series is held in conjuction with the Thursday night track cycling program.In this season’s racing, Savage has achieved wins at the 800m and 1600m distances this season and leads Demi Goodall-Hoffman and veteran John Justice by a point. Leigh Browell and Craig Green are two points behind the leader.Goodall-Hoffman was second and first in her past two series runs.Tonight’s race is usually run as a one-race field, with the frontmarkers being pursued by the backmarkers. The field may include in-form backmarkers Kaine Leech, Andy Buchanan, Jacob Nolan, and Michael Tuhan, who had his first run of the 2010-11 season in last Thursday’s race on the Barnard Street track.Leaders in the RetireInvest distance series aggregate:36 Tom Savage; 35 Demi Goodall-Hoffman and John Justice; 34 Leigh Browell and Craig Green; 33 Deanne Hocking and Geoff Jordan.
