Michael Langdon - Liberal candidate Bendigo East There is a clear message coming from the electorate that after more than a decade in power, Labor and our local member have lost their way. That's why I am fighting to address the local issues that matter and build for the future.Health: A new hospital is a once in a life time opportunity for Bendigo. The Coalition will spend $630 million to build a world-class hospital with an integrated cancer centre on one site. Labor is offering a cheaper, second best option, split over two campuses causing risks to patient safety; duplication; inefficient use of staff and running costs; transportation of patients and it does not fit modern integrated model-of-care.We also have long waiting lists and queuing of ambulances, while the 'Medical One' ward, is disgracefully sitting empty due to lack of funding. Labor is panicking on health with their third or fourth "plan" for Bendigo Hospital being released this week. All the experts and local community groups the Coalition plan for a world-class hospital is the right approach.Education:Jacinta Allan has closed six schools in Bendigo. The new South East Secondary College has been built too small to even fit today's enrolment let alone cater for the growing population. This is appalling. The Coalition will save Eaglehawk Primary School and strengthen education by increasing welfare officers in primary schools and employing more maths and science teachers.Public Safety:There is a public perception that Bendigo is less safe. There is a lack of police on the streets and according to Neighbourhood Watch figures, crime is rising. We will increase police numbers locally, abolish suspended sentence and end home detention to send a clear message to would be criminals. Bendigo, Kangaroo Flat and Eaglehawk stations will be protected after 6pm every evening by Police Protective Service Officers.
