THE health fraternity has lost a special woman with the sudden and tragic death of Kelly Weire, her colleagues said yesterday.Ms Weire was one of two Bendigo residents killed when their light plane bound for the Kokoda Trail crashed in dense jungle in Papua New Guinea on Tuesday night.An occupational therapist with Bendigo Health, friends described Ms Weire as vibrant and happy.The 24-year-old moved to Bendigo two years ago after graduating from La Trobe University in Melbourne.In a statement, Ms Weire’s colleagues said they were devastated by the loss.“Kelly was employed as an occupational therapist at Bendigo Health for two years,” they said.Ms Weire was working with the Rural Health Team, and yesterday tributes flowed for a woman they said was highly valued.“(She was) always happy and vibrant and living life to the full,” colleagues said. “She lead a very active life, and recently gained a certificate for diving that allowed her to dive to 10 metres.“She had a wide circle of friends throughout the organisation, (and) she was recently inundated with cakes and good wishes on her birthday.“Her enthusiasm for life was infectious.”Bendigo Health Acting chief executive officer Liz Hamilton said the accident was a tragedy.“Bendigo Health is organising immediate and ongoing support to our colleagues affected by the incident,” she said.“Our concerns, sympathies and thoughts are now with the families and friends.”
