The search for Bendigo man Daniel Rosewall, missing in dangerous scrubland near Broken Hill, has been called off because of bad weather, police say. But the large-scale operation has already been scaled back after nearly a week of combing the area. Rescuers have been searching for the 28-year-old Victorian since Friday when his red Mazda was found abandoned on a dirt road north of Silverton. Police said yesterday the search had been called off because of rain.Inspector Grant Lister said it hadn’t been decided if the search would resume once conditions improved. Rural Fire Service and State Emergency volunteer numbers have been scaled back and two helicopters and a plane will no longer take part in any search, he said.“Police are still out there conducting inquiries, but there will be no land searches today,” he said.Mr Rosewall was last seen wearing business-style shoes, despite the 40-degree heat. The barren scrubland has been described as treacherous because of its remoteness and the number of open mines in the area. His car was out of fuel when police found it and he was apparently ill-equipped for a spell in the bush. Mr Rosewall is described as being of Caucasian appearance and 178cm in height. He has a medium build and short, dark-coloured hair. He was last seen wearing a grey polo shirt, dark-coloured shorts, black business shoes and a baseball cap with a “Sox” motif. His family have asked the media for privacy.
