A MAN allegedly threatened to kill a Boort policeman’s family on Saturday afternoon. The policeman wasn’t home at the time, or in the neighbouring police station, and with his family fearful of being assaulted, police from Wedderburn were called. Leading Senior Constable Wade Andrews of Wedderburn police said the incident happened about 5pm, after the 43-year-old man had been drinking while watching the AFL grand final at a Boort hotel. Leading Senior Constable Andrews said police were called to Boort police station, in Station Street, where the man allegedly assaulted a Wedderburn police officer. The man was subdued with capsicum spray and taken to the Bendigo police station. Leading Senior Constable Andrews said the 43-year-old Boort man was charged with being drunk in a public place, resisting arrest, assaulting police, and making threats to kill the policeman’s family, and a Wedderburn policeman. It is alleged he also threatened to burn down the Boort police station, and the arresting policeman’s house. Leading Senior Constable Andrews was disappointed by the man’s behaviour.“It’s just a hassle for a remote police station such as Boort,’’ he said. “Threats of this nature are taken very seriously by the police.’’ “They have to be treated fairly seriously,’’ said Leading Senior Constable Andrews. He said excessive drinking had been the main reason for the incident. The Boort man was detained in custody to appear in the Bendigo Magistrates Court today.
