A BENDIGO man was lucky to escape with his life after he fell into the Bendigo Creek and split his head open on Saturday. The 59-year-old, who uses a walker, is believed to have lost balance after peering into the creek to check the water levels. He was flown to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne on Saturday night with serious head injuries and suspected spinal fractures. A spokesman at The Alfred yesterday said the man’s condition had improved and he was in a stable condition.
