PLANS FOR FUTURE: Greens candidate Tim Bardsley.

TIM Bardsley will follow in his father John’s footsteps and stand as a Greens candidate for Bendigo East.John Bardsley stood in the 2006 state election, but the Bardsley’s family’s association with the Greens started more than a decade ago when Tim stood as a federal candidate in the seat of Indi in north-east Victoria, aged 21.Now at 33 and living in Bendigo with his partner and three children in Flora Hill, Tim joins Sue Ellen Radford, Bendigo West, and David Jones, for the upper house seat of Northern Victorian, as Greens candidates for the November 27 state election.“The choice was easy, I look at my kids and I think what legacy do we want to leave them, as a society and I think I would really like to leave them a legacy of healthy eco-systems, clean flowing rivers, equitable access to services in society and a modern economy incorporating energy-efficient-designed homes and easy access to all public transport,’’ he said.Tim said public transport in country Victoria was neglected.“This impacts particularly on the youth, the aged and ageing, poorer families,’’ he said.“The Greens will priortise public transport for new subdivisions and connecting rural cities by creating a new Public Transport Authority.’’Tim said drug-injecting rooms would be considered as part of the Greens’ harm-minimisation policy.“The criminal war on drugs has not really made any inroads in the last few years,’’ he said.“We’d like to see personal use drugs de-criminalised, of course people who are trafficking drugs would still be prosecuted under the criminal framework.’’Tim said the Greens wanted to see substantial investment in renewable energy in the region, including safe-guarding the Wellsford State Forest from logging and cutting firewood.
