BUSINESSES affected by bushfire will benefit from $35,000 from the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank. The bank’s community enterprise foundation has provided the funding to Loddon Mallee Housing Services from its Black Saturday Bushfire Appeal to the 11 businesses. LMHS Victorian Bushfire Case Management Services program manager Jordan Tamblyn said the funding would be used to establish a small business grants program to assist bushfire-affected businesses in the Bendigo region. “The grants will help them get back on their feet after the devastating fires,” he said. “The businesses will use the grants to go towards the cost of replacing lost items and implement marketing and public relations campaigns to attract new business.” Community Enterprise Foundation chief executive officer Callum Wright said LMHS played an important role in the bushfire recovery process in Bendigo. “LMHS is the leading provider of affordable rental housing and homelessness services in rural and regional Victoria,” he said. “In the aftermath of Black Saturday, the not-for-profit organisation has provided support to local residents and access to essential services and programs to assist them in their recovery.” The foundation has also given $15,000 to Our Place in Eaglehawk from the same appeal.New Horizons Welfare Services executive manager Anne Baker said Our Place played an important role in the rebuilding and recovery process. “The program has grown significantly and Our Place is now a bustling community space that engages with a broad range of people,” she said. Since February 2009, the Black Saturday Bushfire appeal has received more than $8 million in donations. For more information about the community enterprise foundation visit www.bendigobank.com.au/public/foundation/index.asp.
